While Starfire Direct has accepted credit card payments for a while, it is now possible to purchase their products using a pre-existing Google Wallet® or PalPal® account. Google Wallet®, named after its parent company Google, is a new payment method that turns a smartphone into a customers wallet. Rather than keep the physical copies of your credit and debit cards with them, a persons financial information is stored on the secure Google servers. NFC point-of-sale terminals are located in physical stores at the cash register. These terminals allow the user to tap the phone against the reader and a select one of their cards from a list on the main screen to complete the purchase. These accounts are available on the internet as well for websites like Starfire Direct that uses Google Wallet®. Combining the physical shopping experience with online cart systems simplifies the users finances. PalPal® is a much older system of digital payment in that it has been around since 1996. PalPal® stores bank account and credit card information in an online account. Rather than filling out this information each time for separate purchases, PalPal® allows the user to pay with the click of a button. Either by putting money into an account to cover the cost of a purchase or selecting a payment method, PalPal® will charge the appropriate selection for a small fee. The recent September/October issue of Design Bureau Magazine interviewed eight guest editors about what inspires them to design, one of which was Starfire Direct partner Antonio Ballatore.
