EasyOnlinePaydayLoan.com Offers Specific State Information

0

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 25, 2012 ) Los Angeles, CA -- The webmaster at EasyOnlinePaydayLoan.com launched an interactive map of the United States, allowing customers to easily find out their state’s specific rules and regulations on payday loans. By knowing the exact laws, customers can get the money they need quicker than ever and avoid huge penalties.

After payday loans online became huge, many states began to regulate how much a person could take out and how much interest could be charged by lenders. These rules and regulations were put in place to make sure that people did not end up falling into huge financial debt, and also to give lenders confidence that they would indeed receive their repayment.

Limits for payday loans range from $500 to $1500 in most cases. No specific region tends to be easier or tougher on payday loans, so the recommended action for most users is to take a quick glance at their state to make sure they can get the money they need.

If a person finds that they need more money than they are allowed to take out, a customer is encouraged to seek out other methods. This includes going to a bank for a loan, or taking out two or more loans at once. Customers are reminded on EasyOnlinePaydayLoan.com that they could face stiffer interest rates if they indeed take out larger loans.

To take a look at the new map, or to learn more about payday loans online in general, visit http://www.easyonlinepaydayloan.com.

About EasyOnlinePaydayLoan.com:

Easy Online Payday Loan attempts to make applying for a cash advance or payday loan online as easy as possible for first time and returning users. By providing a way to obtain multiple quotes at once, customers can be assured that they will end up getting the best rates possible.

Iranian Media Cut-off from International Broadcast as Part of EU Sanctions reports Codis-Satellite

0

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 26, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Nineteen Iranian television and radio broadcasters have been pulled off the airwaves after European Union sanctions against the Middle Eastern country went into effect last week. The sanctions levied at the Islamic Republic are meant to punish the country for continuing human rights abuses.

While Iranian citizens still have access to the sanctioned networks courtesy of the state-run station Irib, the sanctioned broadcasters can no longer reach out to European airwaves.

The satellite provider Eutelsat, in conjunction with media company Arqiva, blocked the Irib channels last Monday on account of “reinforced EU council sanctions”, said Eutelsat spokesperson Vanessa O’Connor. The Iranian broadcaster had access to Eutelsat through a contract with Arqiva.

Iranian Press TV insisted that Irib had the option of pursuing legal action against the satellite provider in response to the cut-off. Eutelsat has not commented on the financial repercussions of the decision.

The EU sanctions, adopted by the council in March, focus on punishing the chief of Irib based on what it perceived as human rights violations in its programming, said Eutelsat.

Iran has been under increasing pressure from the EU to be more transparent about its nuclear program.

Press TV, Iran’s English-speaking broadcaster, is reporting that it is among the channels affected by the sanctions, along with Farsi-speaking channels for ex-pats, including the news station Al-Alam.

Other sanctions against Iran from the EU council include a ban on natural gas imports, financial transactions (excluding approved humanitarian goods), tightened restrictions on new business deals, and bans on materials that could potentially be used to bolster the country’s nuclear program, including graphite and certain metals.

Assets belonging the National Iranian Oil Company, a world leader in crude oil exports, were also frozen last Monday, along with those of the National Iranian Tanker Company, based on an assessment that both institutions provide financial support to the government.

Ambient Aire Has Released a New Line of Odor Control Systems Proven to Safely Eliminate Odors

0

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 27, 2012 )
Ontario, Canada -- Ambient Aire has just announced a breakthrough in the odor control process, helping businesses everywhere quickly eliminate foul smelling scents. By combining the natural disinfecting properties of essential oils with state-of-the-art cold diffusion equipment, the company has been able to develop new odor control systems proven to safely provide consistent healthy air.

Typically, the better a person’s environment smells, the more likely they are to feel a sense of wellness and happiness. This is due to the fact that odors have a large affect on a person’s emotions. In fact, studies have shown 75 percent of people’s emotions are generated by what they smell.

Given this data, more and more companies are taking steps to ensure their air quality remains fresh and neutralized. But many of the current sprays and plug-ins currently on the market do not get to the root of the problem. Therefore, they only last a very short while and do not actually neutralize the air.

Specializing in commercial odor control Ambient Aire has developed a new groundbreaking approach that safely and consistently eliminates bad odors. The company’s exclusive odor remediation systems target malodors, the main contributing factors to poor air quality, using a revolutionary process developed by Bryan Roberts.

According to Roberts, the founder of Ambient Aire, “Our state-of-the-art systems utilize proprietary cold air technology. Our systems distribute an even and consistent invisible micro-mist that floats in the air. This mist consists of molecules that cling to the air and neutralize bacteria laden odors leaving any room fresher and cleaner. Guaranteed.”

With more than 14 years in the odor control and ambient scenting industry, Roberts decided to branch off from the traditional approach to odor control, which uses harsh smelling chemicals or sweet smelling air fresheners full of harmful VOCs. The formulations used by Ambient Aire are naturally based using essential oils and contain no VOCs. Customers can also choose from a variety of essential oil formulas to suit their preference.

For more information, visit http://ambientaire.com/

About Ambient Aire:

Founded in 2009 by Bryan Roberts, Ambient Aire™ features products that represent a new standard in indoor odor remediation. Holly Valance and Nick Candy’s Wedding Cost Likely over $4 Million reports L.A. Banquets

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 28, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- When it comes to “happily ever after” there are many different concepts regarding the beginning of that statement. Some have small and simple dreams that lead to happiness. For others, however, happiness is found in lavishness and pomp, which can only be attained through monetary means. When you spend $3.4 million on your big day, it is safe to say you fall into the latter category.

Holly Valance is such a persona, and her wedding with husband Nick Candy was quite the spectacle.

The event was over-the-top lavish, outrageously expensive, and all can be encapsulated with the an ivory and grey J’Aton Couture gown, with cascading flow and pigeon-colored frou-frou on the hem. The piece was even complete with a 15-foot train.

Some guests were heard complaining that the dress showed a bit too much cleavage. Others remarked the dress was a bit bland and uninspired in its color choice. The cost of the dress was reported to be somewhere in the ballpark of $50,000. One would assume the train took up at least $10,000 of that price tag.

The Groom, while note dazzling in anything in particular, hired Katy Perry as the wedding singer, which fetched a cost of around $1.5 million for the 45-minute set.

The man of the day also footed a $82,000 bill for the flowers, including a bouquet of ‘black magic’ calla lilies.

The real cost, however, was felt in the celebration that followed the ceremony. Thousands of canapés, piles of sushi, and pre-parties as well as barbecues were enjoyed over a three-day festival of sorts. The groom flew in the cast of Valance’s favorite musical, Jersey Boys.
The list of guests was a mixture of A-listers and friends. Simon Cowell, Sir Elton John, as well as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were among the larger names. Dancy Dell-Olio, Tracey Emim, Bruno Tonioli (of Strictly Come Dancing), and Philip Treacy were among the 300 invited to the event.

The event was said to cost an estimated $5 million.

Rhinos Being Poached Following National Park Flood, Army called for Help reports Donald Bernard Tips

0

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 28, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Four rhinoceros were killed by poachers in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) since Tuesday. The latest was killed Thursday, and promoted the Assam Government to demand a CBI inquiry as well as posting Army in the borders of the park area.

The killings of the endangered animal were noted as “shocking” by the Minister of State for Environment Jayanthi Natarajan, who ordered a probe into the incidents. Such works is to be carried out by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) and a report will be expected within a week.

“I am shocked... Unscrupulous poachers have exploited the situation of natural disaster (floods) and attacked helpless animals, which were seeking shelter. I have ordered a probe by a team of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau officials,” she said.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters that the Government would recommend a CBI inquiry into the incidents over the past three years.

He offered a reward of '5 lakh to anyone who had information regarding the poachers.
KNP director Sanjay Bora stated that poachers killed a female rhino at Dolamara, along the Karbi Anglong hills and removed its horn.

A male rhino was also killed after fleeing the flooded park, and was shot inside Jagdamba Tea Estate, which bordered Bangori range. Its horn was also removed. The rhino is currently fighting for its life in a veterinary hospital, Bora said.

Another female rhino was left bleeding after being shot by poachers, who sawed off her horn and right ear. It died a day later.

Two rhino carcasses were found at the park earlier in the week.

Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain stated to reporters in Guwahati that army personnel would be deployed in fringe areas of KNP in an effort to control the criminal acts.

“We have taken steps to equip forest department personnel with sophisticated weapons and more forest guards will be deployed soon to deal with the situation,” he said.

Employers To Provide more Information Regarding 401(k) Fees reports Tenet Financial Group

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 28, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Money adds up over time if one does not pay attention to it. That notion can explain why millions of Arizona workers, as well as their counterparts around the United States, are taking note of new reports about their 401(k) investments.

Federal disclosure guidelines give employees a bit more insight regarding their fees and expenses they place on workplace accounts, which account for 72 million participants nationally. That number ranks among the largest sources of money for many Americans.

To this point, costs have been somewhat obscure, which makes it difficult to account for the drag on portfolios. The new rule-set will not clear up all the muck of confusion; however, it should be a step in the right, and more clear, direction.

In recent weeks, employers have begun to mail the 401(k) cost statements, which will continue henceforth. The information should give participants in the savings plans a better idea of expenses charged along with fees each pays.

"There are so many ways for the providers of these benefits to take a slice here and there, and nobody would ever know it," said Brian Cassidy, president of CCBG Architects Inc., a small firm near downtown Phoenix that has a 401(k) retirement benefit for its workers.

New U.S. Department and Labor rules are then what come into play. The rules are designed to make tracking of 401(k) costs easier for both employers and workers alike. These summarizes do not include costs paid by each work in a lumped number. They instead expose expenses in a standardized format.
"It would be nice to know exactly how much money is going out the door, sliding under the crack," said Martin Ball, an architect at CCBG Architects and a participant in the firm's 401(k) plan. "I'm all for disclosure -- I think it's only fair."

There are a great many individuals that believe these rules are long overdue. 401(k)s are arguably the best investment for the average worker, and have been established for the past three decades.
A lot of individuals do not contribute to Individual Retirement Accounts, and while IRA exceed assets to those of the 401(k) plans, total expenses tends to be money originally invested in 401(k) anyway.401(k) plans, in general, have been rising, while IRA participation have been declining.

401(k) are also predictable in performance. However, plans left unchecked can drain one’s savings. It is not uncommon for a 401(k) investor to get hosed with high fees, lagging performance, or substandard service, said Alan Norris of Norris Wealth management in Phoenix. “It adds up to participants not getting the growth of assets that they should,” he said.

Excessive fees are not defined by the new rule sets, despite the focus on disclosing high-cost investments. The answer does tend to depend on the type of investment.

Many workers are not very educated on the issue of fees, especially which are excessive and which are not. Many workers invest far too conservatively or aggressively, without having proper knowledge of advantages of employer-provided matching funds. The danger of people ignoring new fees, mistaking them for junk mail, is also a very real problem.

"The fee disclosures aren't bad, but I don't know if anyone will understand them," said W.R. "Bud" Lundahl of Meyer and Lundahl Manufacturing Co., a Phoenix architectural-woodworking company that offers a 401(k) program to its employees.

Two thirds of small-business owners were not prepared to answer questions regarding retirement, according to a ShareBuilder 401k survey. This fact is rather surprising given that companies face legal exposure if not fully compliant with the new requirements.

"(Employers) can't just send this information out and cross their fingers," said Joseph Doku of Plan Sponsor Services, a Phoenix firm that helps employers manage their 401(k) plans. "You have to be prepared to answer questions and, potentially, justify the expenses."

New disclosures will be most useful if prompting employees to review accounts and ask questions.

"It will make an impact if every employee walks into their HR department and asks for help in understanding their 401(k)s and whether or not the fees are reasonable," said Norris, a fiduciary consultant for 401(k) plans at Valley companies including CCBG Architects and Meyer and Lundahl Manufacturing.

Many feel the effort to learn more is important, despite a little extra effort required.
"It's satisfying to know that you're putting something away for when you retire," said Eugene Ramarui, a machine operator and 401(k) participant at Meyer and Lundahl.

New Parking Garage for Covington Courthouse to deal with Parking Problems reports Austin TX Garage Door

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 28, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Covington has been looking for a way to alleviate their parking problems in the downtown area. Residence are hoping a new parking garage that is scheduled to be placed adjacent to St. Tammany Parish courthouse will deal with the situation handily.

The garage is set to hold including 535 parking spaces and 11 handicapped spots. That increases total parking space by nearly 300 slots.

The parking structure will be over 200,000 square feet, and includes 10,000 square feet of office space, which shall be shared by the parish’s registrar of voters and clerk of court.

A ribbon cutting is planned for Friday.

The garage has an estimated cost of $8.6 million, and construction began in 2011. Mississippi’s GMR Construction are the current contractors. The parish had set aside the money for the project a handful of years ago.

The garage’s design is to match the courthouse, which opened in 2003.

The courthouse is home to the 22nd Judicial District Court, which serves both the St. Tammany and Washington parishes. The clerk of court, registrar of voters, and district attorney are also housed in the $64 million, 280,000-square-foot building.

The registrar of voters are scheduled to move into the garage office space in mid-December, freeing up 3,100-square-feet at the courthouse. That space is to be occupied by the assessor’s office and clerk of court.

Parking has been quite a challenge in the downtown area for some time, following the opening of the courthouse. Those summoned to jury duty often found it very difficult to find parking, as they were often unaccustomed to the area.

Gardeners are Keeping Color in the Home During Autumn reports HPotter

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 28, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- The nipping cold and hardened ground of autumn can be a tough time for some gardeners. Those with green thumbs must watch as wind, rain, and fading leaves take the place of vibrant greens and pastels of fruits and flowers.

However, autumn colors and textures are still capable of being enjoyed indoors.

“The whole Thanksgiving time and move toward Halloween is really big right now — it’s taken on a life of its own. People really just get right into it,” says Jim Hole, owner of the Enjoy Center in St. Albert.

“It’s becoming almost equivalent to Christmas as far as what people do on the décor side.”

The garden mum is one of the most utilized and decorative pieces to use, despite its simplicity. The mum will survive both inside and out, say Hole, who stocks plenty of mums in yellow, orange, burgundy, and cream colors. They are placed in large and small potts about the house.
“What people really want for Thanksgiving is to have a welcoming look, and a lot of the garden mums are very fragrant. A lot of people don’t realize that.”

The blooms look wonderful indoors for up to a fortnight, he says. “Outside, you’ll get a god, solid four weeks of nice-looking blooms, maybe six if it’s cooler.”

Kalanchoe are another strategy to bring color indoors during the autumn and winter season; however, they are exclusively an indoor plant. Plants like ornamental kales are great for the outdoors.

And of course there are always pumpkins to be talked about when Halloween and Thanksgiving roll around. They bring with them vibrant colors and keep everything looking vibrant while still within the autumn spirit.

Research concludes Millionaires Satisfied with Financial Advisors reports Dani Johnson

0

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 28, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Although the economy is leaving many wealthy individuals in a state of pessimism, most millionaires are satisfied with their investment firms and their financial adviser, according to the St. Louis based Maritz Research.

The research firm based these claims after polling 175 millionaires, with more than 1 million dollars in investments.

28% of millionaires said they believe that the economy is in good shape, while 57% think that the economy is improving. Two thirds are expecting their taxes to increase within the next two years.

Rich Brose, the senior director of strategic consulting in Maritz Research of Financial Services Research group, “There’s still some uncertainty in the market and they’re still cautious about the economy,” he said.

He reflected that, “They’re pretty much in line with the entire population there.” However, millionaires are satisfied, for the most part, with the treatment of their wealth.

Nearly 85% said they are satisfied with their investment firms, which is an improvement from the sixty-seven who thought the same in 2010.

Three quarters of respondents are satisfied with their financial advisors and how they have managed their finances in such a difficult economic time. This figure is an increase from the 58% who thought the same in 2010.

“Financial advisors probably realized in order for them to retain their business, they really needed to focus on providing good, sage advice to their clients,” Brose explains this increase in satisfaction.

He predicts more optimism and satisfaction “as long as folks think we’re moving in the right direction and their investments are sound.”

Plan To Bring Toilets, Running Water To India’s Poor Wins Global+5 Grand Award reports Adam Plumbing Cambridge

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 31, 2012 ) San Francisco CA- A new international award for "solutions to the most pressing global questions of the next five years" has gone to Gram Vikas. The winner is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in eastern India, for its innovative plan to bring toilets and running water to that nation’s rural communities, where 85% of the populace lack access to toilets and 99% have no running water.

Newly begun by the Global Journal of Geneva, Switzerland, the Global+5 Grand Award went to the group’s Mantra (Movement and Action network for Transformation of Rural Lives) Project. Judges for the award included Pascal Lamy, director of the World Trade Organization, and George Papandreou, a former prime minister of Greece.

Appearing at the new award inaugural presentation ceremony in Geneva was Joe Madiath, the project’s head, who said the plan was “more than water and sanitation, it's human dignity." He also voiced his surprise a project to bring toilets to millions of Indians “could lead to such a big prize.”

By bringing running water and toilets to improve the sanitation of 988 villages, some in hilly areas without electricity, Madiath’s project claims it has caused waterborne diseases reduced with an 80% drop. Lack of running water and sanitary facilities has long helped keep country dwellers trapped in a vicious cycle of disease and poverty, it further notes. Census data shows that slightly less than half of India’s 330 million households have access toilet facilities, but nearly two-thirds have telephones, usually cellphones.

Six other projects also received recognition. The Working World, an NGO based in Argentina, Nicaragua and the US, received the first Global+5 Impact award for developing an alternative finance model to bring low-interest, no-collateral loans to support sustainable worker cooperatives.

The first GLOBAL+5 Innovation Award went to the Deepwater Project, for using a unique solar-powered scientific voyage to explore how climate change may be affecting the Gulf Stream. The first Empowerment award was given to the social movement Russia Behind Bars, led by Russian journalist and opposition figure Olga Romanova, which is dedicated to fighting corruption and working for reform in that nation’s legal system.

The award jury gave special mention to a German initiative, known as the "Discovering Hands," initiative, which has hired 20 visually-impaired women to help detect early-stage breast cancer with their heightened sense of touch. The group said its visually-impaired workers’ success rate in detecting the disease was 50% higher than with other methods. VFC's Stock House Weekly Stock Watch, Week of 29 October

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 29, 2012 ) New York, NY -- The market demise that began with Google's (GOOG) surprisingly weak earnings report about ten days ago - which was then followed by additional salvos of dismal earnings from other industry leaders in multiple sectors - continued last week with an early-week drop that saw the DOW sitting at just above the 13,000 mark by the close on Friday.

This week, VFC's Stock House, an information and research outlet that brings ideas and opens discussions to a broad spectrum of investors, identifies multiple stocks that experienced compelling moves last week and have the potential to make headlines this week, too, as potential buys, sells or just simply as stocks to watch.

A full version of this week's report is available at: http://VFCsStockHouse.com

Few signs of economic strength and improving earnings were offered to help keep enthusiasm afloat and pessimism at bay, although the two percent growth in the US GDP reported last week beat most analyst estimates and has warded off any immediate concerns of a return to recessionary times. The news was played down by many pundits, however, and the markets failed to react with any conviction as earnings reports continued to disappoint.

Moving into the new trading week, it's highly likely that politics - and even weather - will trump any news that the earnings season can produce. The last full week of the US Presidential election campaign will intensify an already volatile political climate just as the 'Perfect Storm' comes barrelling down on the east coast. Once the storm passes and the focus is again on politics and economic data, expect Friday's jobs report to create a wave of buzz that could hold presidential implications. A report that is stronger than expected can give the incubent US President the boost he needs to put a close race over the top, while a notable disappointment can potentially sway those that may still be on the fence to cast their vote in favor of the challenger.

If the race is truly as tight as is being reported, this is one of those rare, key weeks where the smallest of details could potentially shape the course of a nation's history - that's what it's all about.

While the east coast hunkers down in expectations of Sandy and the political heat intensifies in the battleground states, here's a few stocks and stories to keep an eye on during the upcoming trading week...

Earnings: It's been no secret that this earnings season was expected to be a weak one, even long before the first reports started rolling in, but a few high-profile surprises to the downside - such as Google and McDonald's (MCD) - sent the shock waves in motion and even the most optimistic of investors decided that there would not be enough 'beat the street' reports to justify any potential rebounds. The last real hope may have come last week when the Apple (AAPL) juggernaut reported, but even Apple's numbers - although still demonstrating a stellar growth rate - came in under estimates and shares dropped to below the six hundred dollar mark for the first time in months.

Of note this week, Starbucks (SBUX) is set to announce results on Thursday. Given the company's modest earnings miss during the previous quarter, and the fact that the current earnings season has pretty much hit everyone and anyone hard, expectations may be tamed for SBUX, too, as shares have dropped by about five bucks from their late-September-early-October highs. Signs of strength, however, may emerge from the company's 'K-Cup' single-serve coffee offering which has consistently eaten away at the market share of competitors, given the name and quality provided by Starbucks that resonates with consumers.

Overall, a hit or miss by Starbucks should not influence broad market trading trends, but it could offer insight into how much free cash consumers are willing to spend on the 'luxuries' these days - although some would argue (including this guy) that a decent cup of coffee or two to get through the morning is a necessity, not a luxury.

It hasn't been all bad news this quarter, though. Sirius XM Radio Inc. (SIRI) CEO Mel Karmazin, for instance, provided early-month guidance at Liberty Media's (LMCA) analyst meeting a few weeks ago that it would up its year-end subscriber guidance thanks to an auto-industry rebound over the past few months. SIRI shares had been gunning for three bucks for weeks already, but the positive guidance gave the stock the boost it needed to approach that mark, falling just short at $2.97.

Sirius is slated to report earnings this coming Tuesday and with investors already riding high on the encouraging tone at the Liberty meeting, more attention may now be paid on the activities surrounding last week's announcement that Karmazin will step down come February 1st. Karmazin has presided over Sirius since 2006, secured the merger with XM and worked the deal with Liberty's John Malone to stave off bankruptcy in 2009 when SIRI shares traded for a mere nickel. Malone and Liberty are just about over the threshold where they would control SIRI and it looks like Big Mel chose the path of stepping aside, rather than essentially work for his sometimes-adversary.

Healthcare, Biotech, Pharmaceutical:

Dendreon (DNDN): Still on the earnings front, Dendreon is also set to report this week. Although revenue is predicted to be significantly higher than the same quarter from the previous year, the actualities are still far from the lofty expectations that came along with the historic Provenge approval of 2010. Shares dipped to below the four dollar mark last week as the market as a whole dropped, marking a nearly forty percent downturn since the summer months. The lower shares drop, the more probability - at least for the time being - that some may play the stock in hopes of a potential turnaround. This week's report could offer some insight into how much rebound potential is held with Provenge sales, although the basis of any argument that supports a near-term rebound may lie with the expanded insurance coverage provided by Aetna (AET) - and it still may be a bit too early to measure that effect. Investors will also be looking for any positive effects of recent cost-cutting measures.

MRI Interventions (MRIC): Moving away from earnings reports, but still looking at earnings numbers, MRI Interventions is another company that has demonstrated earnings growth over the past few quarters and could potentially be on the verge of a breakout. MRIC has developed the ClearPoint and ClearTrace MRI-enhancing systems that provide medical professionals with real-time imagery during complicated procedures on the brain and heart, respectively. The company has been successful in methodically implementing the ClearPoint system into the field of brain surgery - attracting Boston Scientific Corporation (BSX) and Brainlab along the way - and proof positive that growth trends are in the works may be the stark increase in revenue generated by the 'disposable items' associated with ClearPoint procedures. That's a key point to note for MRIC - the company not only receives revenue on the sale of its systems, but also on the related 'disposables'.

Synergy Pharmaceuticals (SGYP): Synergy shares had been hovering at prices closer to five dollars than four for the better part of a couple of months leading into last week before some increasingly volatile price action resulted in a drop to sub-$4 prices. A five percent rebound last Friday, however, and some still-pending trial catalysts makes SGYP again a stock to watch this week. The news attracting interest early last week revolved around the initiation of a Phase I clinical trial for the company's second GI drug, SP-333 in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). As previously discussed, while Synergy was building a pipeline consisting of drugs that targeted multiple indications in other sectors of the healthcare industry, the development of another GI drug candidate strengthened the company at its core and threatened to eventually make it a big player in that arena. Some investors may have taken note, judging by the late-week rebound.

Lpath, Inc. (LPTN): It's been a tumultuous year for Lpath, Inc., but recent developments have again brought this company to the limelight. Early on in 2012 shares dropped significantly when an announcement hit the wires that inconsistencies (which proved to be unrelated to any Lpath trials) forced to FDA to temporary halt the company's iSONEP trials in the treatment of Wet AMD. iSONEP is devised from the ImmuneY2 technology that taps lipid-based therapeutics to target various ailments, including cancer. Pfizer came on board early in regards to iSONEP collaboration, adding additional intrigue to this company's story line. Pfizer also holds a first right of refusal to ASONEP development, as well, in the treatment of cancer.

Amarin Corporation (AMRN): Amarin shares pushed towards the thirteen dollar mark last week on increased volume when a report in the UK's Daily Mail indicated that AstraZeneca may be gearing up to make a bid for the company. The basis of the author's speculation is that AZ's new boss, Pascal Soriot, suspended a share buyback program in preparation for strategic acquisitions that could include Amarin's Vascepa. It's generally regarded on this side of the pond that Amarin will eventually be bought out, although each day that goes by without an offer raises speculation to the contrary.

OncoSec Medical Incorporated (ONCS): Shares of OncoSec Medical retreated heavily following a quick run that returned more than a double in share price over a few weeks time. The major spark for the rally came as the company received a European CE Mark certification for the OMS electroporation device, the baseline technology for the company's pipeline of products. Another report last week, however, also highlighted preliminary results from a Phase II trial for ImmunoPulse in Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC).

Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) / Global Defense:

Implant Sciences (IMSC): Continue to keep Implant Sciences on the radar. Having been relatively silent of late in regards to the progress being made with Transportation Security Laboratory's (TSL) testing of the company's QS-B220 explosives and narcotics trace detector for potential future use in air cargo screening, an update last week from the company CEO noted that the final stages of testing would be complete over the near term. The TSL is the testing body of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and a near-term approval of the QS-B220 could allow Implant to take well advantage of a key December 3rd deadline imposed by the TSA stating that all inbound-US air cargo on passenger airliners will be screened for explosive traces. Implant has compiled a management team well-respected in the industry, settled short-to-mid term concerns of looming debt, and continued to grow its business internationally; the TSA approval could launch the company into the mainstream of the homeland and airline defense industries.

IMSC shares closed Friday up by five percent.

Roundup: As mentioned in the opener, it's rare when one trading week provides so much game-changing excitement as to potentially have global implications with every tick upwards and downwards. The markets are still uncertain of who will occupy the White House for the next four years, which means the jittery and volatile mood will continue this week as earnings likely continue to roll in looking unimpressive. In essence, too, the Friday jobs report could hold this election in the balance. President Obama has a strong following of people that may be waiting for just the right sign at the opportune time to convince them that his strategies of the past four years have borne fruit, and that report right before an election could reinvigorate the hope that was the basis of his last campaign. Will it all come down to one report? There's got to be more to it than that, but in today's society people tend to ask only, "what have you done for me lately?"

The wild card is Sandy. How many people will not go to the polls thanks to the calamity that Hurricane Sandy will bring with her? The battleground state of Florida looks to have been spared her wrath, but others may not fare so lucky.

Meanwhile, the markets will move on - and there's sure to be a fair share of spikes, dips and outright action all week long, regardless of all the political and hurricane-driven waves that may come our way. The biggest wave of all, though, could be Hurricane Eli storming Dallas.

To all those hunkering down on the east coast - stay safe, and I raise a glass to you.

Happy Trading!!!

Disclosure: Long AMRN, IMSC, SGYP, DNDN.

Fewer Black Cats Adopted Due to Halloween Hijinks, Stigma reports Your Healthy Cat

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 31, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Until recently, many animal welfare agencies sought to ban the adoption of black cats shortly before Halloween each year.

Those advocating for animals feared that black cats would end up serving as a live props at Halloween parties at best, or, at worst, tortured and ritually sacrificed by some All Hallows Eve celebrants.

Over the last few years, however, animal welfare agencies have retracted their assertions that black cat adoptions near Halloween equal black cat endangerment.
In fact, the Canadian Press reports that the Ontario and Nova Scotia Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals promote the adoption of black cats during October by offering $5 off the adoption price.

"We always have a lot of cats in our care and really we're just going along with the theme of the holidays,” said Allison Cross, Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals communications manager. “It's just a fun way that allows us to promote these cats that are constantly looking for homes.”

Humane Society branches throughout the nation agree that lifting the ban was beneficial to black cats.

"All this urban myth was doing was preventing us from getting black cats into homes and it wasn't actually doing anything to deter people who are trying to get cats for bad purposes," Windsor/Essex County Humane Society executive director, Melanie Coulter said.

"There's enough cats out there that are easy for someone to obtain. If you want a cat for a Halloween sacrifice, you can get one on Kijiji for free," she added.

Some people do still seek out black cats simply because it is nearly Halloween, however.

"It still does happen where people are coming in and literally looking for an animal and it turns out what they're looking for is black cats to act as a Halloween party prop," said Barbara Steinhoff, communications director for the Toronto Humane Society. "It's becoming fewer and further between, but it can happen."

As it turns out, black cats tend to be the least adopted felines in general, in part owing to myths that they bring bad luck.
